There is Salvation in Jesus Christ Alone
Thank you for taking the time to read about our church. We would be honored to have you visit us this Sunday. Our church’s first priority is to teach, to live, and to believe the truth. In John 8:32, Jesus said, “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” John 17:17 tells us “thy word (God’s Word) is truth.” We can have all opinions, ideas, or beliefs about what eternity is, about Heaven and Hell, even about ourselves, but if our thoughts are different than what God’s Word says, then our thoughts are false.
For instance, some would say they don’t think that Hell is a real place. Hell must be here on Earth. Besides, surely a loving God would not condemn anyone to Hell. Yet, Jesus told the story of the rich man and Lazarus. Luke 16:22-23 “The rich man also died, and was buried; and in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments.” The truth is that Hell is an actual place of fire, and there are people who will spend their eternity in Hell.
You might be saying, “Well, yes, some will be in Hell, but only the truly wicked, or the ‘Sons of Perdition’ will be there.”Revelation 21:8 “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone; which is the second death.” The truth is that no man is righteous, in the eyes of God. All men are truly wicked. Romans 3:10 “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one.” Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”
In reply, some would say, “Of course, nobody is perfect, but I think God understands that and is forgiving.” The truth is that God does know that we are sinful. Galatians 3:10 “For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse; for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.” God says that we are cursed by our sin. Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Sin carries with it a severe penalty, because sin must be paid for in Hell.
“But isn’t God a loving God?” you might be asking; and the answer is yes, absolutely. Romans 5:8 “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Before we understand the depth of God’s love, we must know the truth about God’s justice. The justice of God requires that sin be paid for. Romans 5:12 “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned.” Adam’s sin caused us all to sin, but notice that the verse says that God does not condemn us, our sin does. John 3:17,18 “For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”
When we understand the truth about God’s justice, we will see the truth about God’s mercy. We have broken God’s law, and our crimes against God require punishment. Yet God, in his mercy, has not yet punished us. In fact, Jesus took our punishment for us. Romans 5:18-19 “Therefore, as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.” John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” He loved us so much that he paid for our sins with his own blood, and he did this knowing that many would choose to reject his payment.
At this point, you might be saying that you understand all this, and that you are doing your best to make up for your sin. Maybe you have been baptized to remove your sin, and you are doing your best to do good to others so that God will say that you are worthy of salvation. If you understand the truth about yourself, then you have to understand that you could never do enough to remove or make up for your sin. In the eyes of God, “we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags;” Isaiah 64:6. The truth is that we cannot stand before God and show him our righteousness. We must, instead, ask God for his mercy, as the publican prayed in Luke 18:13 “God be merciful to me a sinner.”
You may be asking, “But don’t I need to make restitution for my sin?” The truth is that you could never do enough to make up for the sin you have committed. Jesus paid the full price for your sin with his blood. Ephesians 1:7 “In whom we have redemption through his (Jesus) blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;”
All that remains for you, is to ask Jesus to be the payment for you sin. Romans 10:9-10 “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” Confess to God that you are unable to make up for your sin, but that you believe that “he (Jesus) is able to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.” Hebrews 7:25. Romans 10:13 “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Call now and ask God to forgive you.
“Dear Jesus, I know that I have sinned against you and that nothing I do will ever change that. Please forgive my sin and pay the penalty for me. I am trusting you, dear God, to take me to heaven when I die. Amen”
Acts 16:31 “And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.” The Bible is very clear that if you call upon God to forgive your sin and “believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, THOU SHALT BE SAVED.” You can be sure that God will keep that promise. Do you believe this? If so, come to our church and tell us. Luke 15:10 “Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.”The angels are rejoicing, and we would like to rejoice with you. Most importantly, God wants to bless you. Our church wants to help you to be blessed by God. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
Sincerely,
